The Position

The IT Specialist works within a team-oriented and fast-paced work environment. The team is a talented, creative and driven group of people focused on furthering the mission and values of the agency. An integral part of the Information Technology team, this position plays a pivotal role in providing technical support for network and hardware issues across the agency. The IT Specialist provides a professional and courteous user experience and under the direction of the Information Technology Analyst, ensures issues are addressed and resolved in the timely and efficient manner. This position implements best practices and protocols for employees and provides training on hardware use across the agency. The IT Specialist supports 450+ employees across our two main drivers: homeless services and real estate development.

What You'll Do

  • Monitors and responds to user help desk requests; provides user technical support
  • Troubleshoot problems with software, personal computers (PC’s), peripherals and telecommunications equipment
  • Inspects personal computer equipment and read order sheets listing user requirements to prepare workstation for delivery; recommends or performs minor actions to correct problems
  • Loads specified software packages such as operating systems, word processing, or spreadsheet programs on the workstation
  • Installs new application software, upgrades, and patches; installs or assists service personnel in installation of hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, and disk drives on user's premises
  • Designs, administers, and coordinates user access and control, assigns user rights with appropriate security levels; performs system backups
  • Provides instruction to users in use of equipment, software, and manuals
  • Provides system maintenance
  • Assists in developing, implementing, maintaining and enforcing policies and procedures for Information Technology operations.
  • Works with vendor representatives to identify and correct causes of hardware and software malfunctions and perform enhancements.
  • Enters commands and observe system functions to verify correct system operation; responds to client inquiries concerning systems operation and diagnose system hardware, software, and operator problems
  • Develops justifications and recommendations for acquisitions for computer hardware and software; reviews and evaluates contracts and proposals
  • Prepares reports and correspondence; maintains necessary records and files of operational activities

What You're Skilled At

  • Proven knowledge and experience with helpdesk systems and troubleshooting user technology
  • Basic theories and applications of computer science
  • Basic principles and practices used in information systems operations; basic principles of training; PC hardware and software components
  • Computer applications and software
  • Operational characteristics, services, and activities of Information Technology
  • Principles and practices of technical support and customer service
  • Basic methods and techniques used in the installation, trouble shooting and maintenance of information systems hardware, software and related systems

 

Other

  • Maintains and executes confidential information according to HIPAA standards
  • Obtain and maintains CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Able to pass post offer Tuberculosis (TB) clearances
  • Travel is a regular duty for this position and is required 40% of the time
  • Must have and maintain a valid California Driver’s License and auto insurance in good standing
  • Able to work a 9/80 work schedule

Experience

  • Associate’s degree accredited college or university with major course work in Technology or related field; OR
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in information technology, providing technical and operational support and/or network administration in the installation, repair, and maintenance of computer hardware, software and related equipment; OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience
