The Position

The Volunteer Coordinator is part of our Development and Community Engagement (DevCo) team, a talented, creative and driven group of fundraisers focused on furthering the agency’s mission and values. This position balances the needs of the people we serve, while creating volunteer opportunities to engage the community at large and support the goals of the DevCo department.

What You'll Do

  • Recruit volunteers and community partners through a combination of in person and digital outreach by establishing new positive relationships with volunteers and donors
  • Creates and coordinates both in person and virtual volunteer events
  • In conjunction with the Community Engagement Manager, Volunteers, trains and leads all volunteers in the LAFH onboarding process
  • Coordinates with various departments to assess needs and augment support for projects and events with volunteers
  • Creates and coordinates programs and activities for individual volunteers, volunteer groups, and community supporters both off- and on-site at various locations
  • Accurately track volunteers including individuals, groups and committees, while maintaining and managing the volunteer database to ensure accuracy
  • Assumes responsibility for a positive and engaging volunteer experience
  • Retains volunteers by various methods including regular communication, maximizing involvement, and collaborating with Community Engagement Manager, Volunteers in recognition efforts
  • Collaborates with the Community Engagement Manager, Volunteers and Director of Community Engagement to contribute to donor cultivation strategies
  • Speaks at community and corporate events to recruit volunteers and in-kind donors. Be well-versed on our brand and communications strategies, effectively representing the agency and issues surrounding homelessness in the community
  • Preforms additional tasks and projects as directed by the Community Engagement Manager, Volunteers.

What You're Skilled At

  • Knowledge of issues related to homelessness
  • Able to work with diverse populations and persons with high acuity
  • Professional, friendly, and succinct written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Creative problem solving
  • Able to manage multiple project timelines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus

Other

  • Maintains and executes confidential information according to HIPAA standards
  • Obtain and maintains CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Ability to pass post-offer Tuberculosis (TB) clearances
  • Travel is a regular duty for this position and is required 35% of the time
  • Use of a personal vehicle to travel between worksites and other locations is required
  • Must have and maintain a valid California Driver’s License and auto insurance in good standing
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs
  • Ability to work a 9/80 work schedule
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed

Experience

  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree with two (2) years of experience in an office setting
  • Professional or volunteer experience in event planning, project management, or volunteer management preferred
  • Familiarity with volunteer management platforms (e.g., Salesforce, HandsOnConnect, or similar) is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in building and sustaining relationships with volunteers or similar stakeholder groups is highly desirable
